The Start

In 1983, at fifteen years old, we started by painting houses, building decks, and retaining walls. It wasn't a business plan—it was work that needed doing, and we showed up to do it right. That habit stuck.

By 1987, we'd built our first addition—two bedrooms and a bath attached to an existing home. It taught us something that bigger jobs would only confirm: taking an old structure and making it part of a family's life requires more than framing and nails. It requires attention.

In 1989, Hatch Building was born as a real business. We focused on what we could do well: roofs, siding, decks, and new homes. By 2000, we'd incorporated as Hatch Building, Inc. and created the logo that became HBI. We were doing light commercial work too, but the real work was turning existing homes into forever homes.

What We've Learned

Longevity means something. We've been here since 1983, watching trends come and go, but the fundamentals don't change. A roof that leaks in ten years isn't worth the money you saved. An addition that doesn't match the home's bones will haunt the next owner. We've seen both happen with contractors who cut corners.

We have the tools and experience to do what others can't. That sounds like boasting until you need it. Raising a roof with cranes.
